Assent Voting

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the District of Coldstream will hold a General Local Election for the offices of one (1) Mayor and six (6) Councillors, and a vote on “District of Coldstream Public Works Building Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1808, 2022”. There will also be three Advance Voting opportunities.

WHAT IS ASSENT VOTING?

Assent voting is used to obtain the approval of the electors of a municipality so the municipal council may proceed with proposed bylaws, agreements, or other matters required or authorized under the Community Charter or Local Government Act.

ASSENT QUESTIONS

Pending approval from the Inspector of Municipalities, the question is:

“Are you in favour of “District of Coldstream Public Works Building Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1808, 2022” which would authorize the District of Coldstream to borrow up to $8,500,000, with interest, over a period of 30 years in order to finance the construction of a Public Works Building to be located at 8010 Aberdeen Road, Coldstream?”

SCRUTINEERS

Scrutineers for and against the question must be appointed if applications are received from persons who wish to volunteer for the positions.  Only people entitled to vote as electors in this assent voting opportunity are entitled to act as scrutineers.

If sufficient applications are received, one scrutineer for and one scrutineer against the question will be appointed for each voting place.  One scrutineer for the question and one scrutineer against the question will also be appointed to be present at the determination of the official results and, if necessary, at a judicial recount.
